Woes

On World Poetry day, here is my contribution for my readers:

When it simmers in the summer
as it freezes in the winter
when it floods during the rains
as it dislocates during landslides.

When it pours lava from volcanoes
as boats gets capsized in swollen rivers
when the earth shakes during a quake
as an epidemic swallows a community.

When hunger and thirst is rampant
as there is no pay after work
when there is no food to buy
as there is no shop in sight.

When you get ransacked by robbers
and animals take off your dear ones
while there is no water to drink
as the light goes out of your sight.

While the limbs get distraught
as the organs in the body fail you
when fire engulfs homes and dreams
then a disease lays you low.

That is when you think of Him
who though appears nowhere to be seen
still watches over you, to see
how you conduct yourself
when life’s woes befall you …

  1. The challenge well expressed for able and healthy souls. Just wondering how the poor, young children, disabled older and helpless folks face these natural calamities. Is there a flaw in His doings?

    1. Thank you Promod Sir. You have rightly put raised this point. For the hungry, food is god and the person who provides it, an angel. Even after their considerable losses, when some one helps the poort a bit, they consider the person who helps them, a savior sent by God. Such is the innocence and least expectation that they have. But it is a pity that the so called Kings, the designated and the chosen rulers who rule the nations have nothing to offer them to uplift them. They continue to be downtrodden…

      1. Very true, there are angels and there are apathetic rulers. But then there are natural disasters as well when everybody is rolled in and suffer. Babies just born are inflicted with painful diseases, some survive others don’t. There are miseries, agony and distress without any cause or explanation from karmas. In these truly genuine situations and events, I think it is ok to complain to God besides offerings of thanks to Him. After all God is a Friend too with Whom we can open up. Does it help? May be or may be not. But it does make one feel lighter when one unloads his or her feelings in front of Him or Her.

      2. Yes it helps when you have one to speak to or complain. He is one companion who walks with you or in your journey, be it short or long; maybe a miserable one or one filled with happiness. I know a lot of unanswered questions still remain to which we need to seek answers. Thank you for your generous comments.

  2. A tribute to the Almighty on World Poetry Day 😲 I must say. Well done 👍🏼. Every breath is a poem. Every sigh is a verse. For He is All and in All.
Happy World Poetry Day to you Sunith and to all of us. ✍🏻
